A large piece of our work here at Logan River Academy,
whether academically, therapeutically, or both, is supported by offering our
clients several opportunities for stress release, healthy coping, and confidence
building through various recreational pursuits. We are located in beautiful Cache
Valley, surrounded by mountains,
rivers, lakes and rural areas in every direction. Cache
Valley is unique in that there are
four separate mountain ranges that make this area a true valley. The largest,
the Bear River Range, gives us our eastern boundary and a majority of our
recreation opportunities are found in Logan Canyon, Blacksmith Fork Canyon,
Green Canyon and several others.
The western skyline is dominated by the ominous Wellsville
Range, considered to be one of the steepest
mountain ranges in North America because of its narrow
base and 9,372’ peak height.
Wolf Creek
Peak to our south is an extension of the Wasatch
Range and is home to the Powder Mountain
ski area. Gunsight Peak,
the prominent peak to the northwest, is the highest point in the Malad
Range, a sub-range of the larger Bannock
Range that extends into southern Idaho.
While these mountain ranges offer us endless opportunities for adventure, we
often want to expand our activities and look to the waterways in the valley to
provide us with unique experiences. The Logan River,
Blacksmith Fork River,
Little Bear River, and the Bear River all create several
locations for activities such as canoeing, kayaking and fishing. The
high-elevation lakes, Tony Grove
Lake, White Pine
Lake and High
Creek Lake
are peaceful retreats. Bear Lake,
“The Caribbean of the Rockies,” provides stunning views
and every form of flat-water recreation someone would want to pursue from
sailing to scuba diving.
Cache Valley
is still rich with agriculture and towns with very rural ways of life. These
quiet areas are criss-crossed with vacant roads and wide-open views of the
valley, perfect for cycling enthusiasts.
As you can see, our clients and ourselves are very fortunate
to have access to so many opportunities and beautiful areas to spend our time.
Stay tuned for part 2 where we enter the exciting world of road trips and
further exploration.
